nature stuff
We had a little bit of rain yesterday right at rush hour and, again, everyone in Austin forgot how to drive. We didn't get home until 6pm. Danielle is having a rough time adjusting to no nap time; she fell asleep in the car on the way home! Then I brought her inside and she slept on the couch until dinner time. Then she and I both went to bed about 8:30pm!
Trey's new, YOUNG (38), cool CEO announced yesterday that there will be free breakfast ($5 limit) for all employees (no spouses, kids, etc) for the month of September from 7:30-8:30am. HOW COOL IS THAT??!!
Last week was crazy busy but ended peacefully. Trey's grandmother passed away peacefully. I had a business trip planned to Dallas for Tues - Thurs. I cut it short and flew to Houston Thurs morning for the memorial service. It was a sweet ceremony with all grandchildren speaking. Plus I got to see my in laws and all my neices in from Seattle. Friday morning early Trey, Danielle and I drove back to Austin to meet with Danielle's old playgroup; these kids have known each other since 6 months old. Now there are little brothers and sister and the 5 year olds are all heading off to kindergarten. Friday night was Back to School night and we got to (officially) meet Danielle's teacher and asst. teacher, see where she will sit, get the schedule, etc. Danielle is sooo excited. We then splurged and went out to eat at a Mediterrian restaurant for dinner then a massive grocery store trip. Saturday we finally got some things in order around the house and took a little time to go swimming! Saturday evening ended the weekend very peacefully for me; Our church had a 24 hour prayer vigil to kick off our open house month. My time was from 11pm - midnight and I wasn't sure what to expect. Let me tell you - it was very moving being the only being (well, only physical) being in your church praying. The time flew by and it was very relaxing. Well . . . off to another busy week . . .
Friday evening was a studen art show at Danielle's school. Friend/coworker Lauren came with me. The middle one on the right is Danielle's Georgia O'Keefe-style flower.
Then it was off to the house to watch High School Musical 2 with neighbor Alison. (Check out my musical note fruit salad watermelon on the left.)
It's pouring here this morning! Need to go off to navigate to work...but quickly:
I worked from home yesterday morning and is was lovely. Then I took the afternoon (well, really only 3 hours) off. We got all of Danielle's school supplies, got shot records, registered for school and did lots of laundry. Got 2 chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and cheddar for $3.11 on sale. Had that and sweet potatoes and alfredo noodles for dinner. Also had a scoop of ice cream for dessert and glad we did since I discovered the freezer was off before everything defrosted. Trey got it fixed and all is fine now. OK, the rain does not seem to be letting up so off we sail...
We've been so busy! Friday night we drove into Houston to visit Trey's mom. Saturday she babysat so Trey and I could go to Alamo Drafthouse Houston to see the Bourne Ultimatum. It was so intense but good. A little of the conspiracy theorist is coming out in me now though! All the movie previews were intense too; it wore me out. Today was church and visiting a friend and new BABY. Tonight is girls' night out with friend Terilynn and daughter, Charlotte. Tomorrow is MONDAY!!! Where has the weekend gone????!!
Last Friday one friend took me to lunch, Monday another took me to lunch, Friday another is taking me to lunch. Yesterday morning I was part of a market research study and was paid $75 for a 2 hour study about my favorite soap opera, General Hospital! My coworkers gave me a lovely card and gift certificate to Hobby Lobby (I'm working on a project for Christmas). I got a ton of messages from friends and family. I came home to Trey, who had rushed home so I could go to my church meeting, and he had downloaded all the beautiful photos of flowers that he flashed up on our TV and a Beatles love song - isn't that cool?! (Trey was rushing home so he didn't have time to stop and get flowers.) I went to my church meeting, came home and Danielle and I played with the Barbie hair style things before I watched today's episode of GH on soapnet. Then I talked to my SIL and neice. It was a great day.
Here's an email conversation (summary) that took place about a month ago between Trey and myself. It initially started with a coworker's email.
Coworker: Hi all. I'm working the party at this year's Moonlight Margarita Run benefitting the Townlake Trail. It's a lot of fun, you should consider
A: (After looking up info on the run and margarita party afterwards) Think you might want to do this? I'll see if my parents can babysit Danielle.
T: Sounds fun. How long is it?
A: It's a 5K.
T: Sure. We can do that. We used to do the trail all the time.
A: Yeah, we can probably train a little to be able to run that. Ok, I'll sign us up.
But the thing is - we DIDN'T ever get around to training but we ran/walked it anyway! During the run this girl passes back by me (Trey has gone on ahead) and says "Angela, you crazy! What are you doing here?" and puts her hand out to high-five and at that point I'm can barely breath much less can talk so I high five her and continue. I'm trying to figure out who it is and decide that she's taller than I remembered but that it is maybe this girl Rhonda that I hit it off with in the boot camp adventure from a few months back. I eventually catch up with Trey and tell him the story; he asks "Did you figure out who it was?" I told him who I thought it was and he says "Nope. It's Tracy Edwards." It's a friend of his that he grew up with /daughter of MIL's bridge partner/cousin by marriage of his cousin's who now lives somewhere around Houston. Six months ago she joined a running group and they do an event out of town about every couple of months and just happened to choose this one in Austin! What are the chances??!! Anyway, the margaritas were ok. The PORK quesadillas at the party were INCREDIBLE and we survived. The event t-shirts SUCKED but it was a fun adventure night out for us AND I'm not too sore. I have a big blister on my right foot though. Of course, since I did the run Thursday night I figured I was owed a treat on Friday and overdid it on cookies! :-)
