the tooth fairy shall make her appearance tonight . . .

While at a kid-friendly party this evening D said "oww, that hurts" and pointed to her month. I said "oh let me see if that made your tooth more loose." I looked and looked and the first tooth was GONE. We determined that she must have swallowed it while eating fajitas. Luckily, another friend at the party assured us that the tooth fairy still visits even if you lose the tooth. So we expect the tooth fairy to make an appearance tonight! The second tooth is VERY close to coming out as well so the tooth fairy will be making a second appearance this week I'm sure.

can you say this is a brush with celebrity?

I'm guessing "no." Thursday, we got a note from D's school that drop-off and pick-up points would be different because of a big church function. Friday, at drop off, it was pretty obvious the "function" was some kind of film production (catering, big film equipment, security, etc). I assumed (incorrectly) that it was a religious instructional video or something of that nature. When I picked up D I asked about it and turns out it was a movie being filmed with Sean Penn AND Brad Pitt. Of course, I didn't see either of them and when I asked D "Did you see anyone famous at the school today?" Her response was "No, but Hayden and I built a fairy house on the playground." Geez - much more important, Mom! And, you know, D really is more important anyway :-).

(imdb.com already shows that the movie is currently filming in Austin so I don't think I'm giving away that much info. Plus, knowing who looks at my blog, I don't think I need to worry about crazed fans trying to figure out how to stalk the actors!)

9 years part 2

For our 9 year celebration we went to Wink restaurant for fantastic dinner. We both had the 5 course chef's tasting menu. Since the menu changes daily and the link may not tell you what we had, I will go ahead and post that it included 1) amuse-bouche 2) sashimi of kona kampachi on hearts of palm w/ cilantro and chili oil 3) seared dayboat scallop w/ snow peas, salted almond crumble & lemon puree 4) crisp duck breast w/ baby brussel sprouts, maiitakes & beet green gratin (both of our favorites) & 5) grilled hanger steak on sunchokes (not fans of the sunchokes), rapini & oyster mushrooms w/ gorgonzola butter followed by an iberian cheese plate (4 cheeses from regions of Portugal & Spain) For dessert we got the Wink Trio - a sampling of the el rey chocolate cake, creme brulee & lemon meringue pot (also our favorite). Service was excellent. Trey had some red wine that he really liked and I had a little bit of a sweet white wine. It was a big spurlge even with the $25 gift certificate from restaurant.com. Highly recommended for a special night out.

9 years

Trey and I have been married for 9 years today! It's hard to believe it; we have been through so much - as I'm sure all marriages have.

Tuesday night Trey didn't get home until really late (quarter til midnight) and as he was walking into the house I heard the alarm go off on his cell. He looked at it, gave me a peck then said "happy anniversary." I said "it's not for 2 days." He looked at his cell and said "oh yeah, I set the reminder for early." :-) He definitely didn't forget! I bet men all over the world love the calendar alarm features on their electronics.

new blooms . . .

Today we were blessed to welcome a new neice into the world. No name as of yet but she is about a week early and a healthy 8 lb 14.5 oz & 19" long. Appropriately today, the first bloom this season from Pop Oberpriller's lime tree also made its debut.

Danielle's contribution to the dinner grace this evening included "Thank you, Lord, for providing the food and thank you for Daddy repairing it." giggle - so cute and precious, aren't they?

week in review photo catchup

We got a deal on a decent kid's telescope (reg $80 marked down to $15) and Trey set up up to look at the moon. (Yes, the moon was out during the day. We did also look at it later that night and it was much more impressive.) The next day we mowed that long grass seen in the photo above and had to move the trampoline under the fig tree. The girls thought it would be great fun to "camp out" with their bunnies . . . and one live animal. See him? (He's such a tame kitty.) Yesterday my work and D's school were closed so we had a nice lunch with Trey then came home and made this tissue paper egg window decoration. We used acetate instead of the usual wax paper and glitter glue for a little extra sparkle.

Bunny Club - Here!

Yesterday morning I had a doctor's appt (everything good - Dr is convinced Baby #2 is a girl and wouldn't do another ultrasound to confirm-grr) and Danielle went with me. Afterward she wanted to walk around the little gift shop in the hospital. So she was very patient and didn't touch hardly anything. Then we rounded a corner and there was this precious bunny with polka dot hat and matching little purse and D gasped. She looked up at me with those big brown eyes and asked "Mommy, can I have her?" I was about to say "no" because I am cheap and always say "no" when I decided to go ahead and say "yes." D was thrilled and named her Tixie. We stopped by at home where D introduced her to the fancy bunny she inherited from Trey's grammer, put Tixie in her "carseat" and went off to school.

On the way home D told me all these elaborate plans to start a bunny club for any kids that want to play with their bunnies, have a party, hang out under the fig tree, etc. We got home and went across the street to see if friend was home yet - nope. I was starving and sleepy so started to make dinner. D took a blanket out back with her bunny and waited. Every once in a while she would yell out "Bunny Club - Here!" It was breaking my heart when, thankfully, Trey, who was changing out of his work clothes, went out and joined the Bunny Club. Within a few minutes neighbor friend was home, had her own bunny and came over to play until dinner. It was a very short first Bunny Club meeting but absolutely precious. So if you have a bunny and want to join the Bunny Club, let me know.

ahhhh, the hormones

So far it's been a fairly easy pregnancy. I have had some back pain, some uncomfortableness getting so big this quickly and a little numbness in my left thigh every once in a while. However, yesterday, some kind of hormones went nuts and I blubbered at everything! My friend, Lauren, was showing me her friend's daughter's wedding website and I bawled when we read the sweet story of their proposal. I finally stopped crying for that when another coworker (probably the nicest person I know) came down and showed me the memorial paper for her eldest son's girlfriend's mom. That threw me over the edge again (though crying is completely justified as the girl is 18 and lost her dad as well 5 years ago). Thankfully the evening was pretty relaxing (beautiful weather just hanging in the backyard with T & D) but the waterworks started again when I told Trey about my day! I feel much better already this morning so expect no waterworks today. Of course, will see if my pregnancy hormones agree!

cupcakes

Got to meet my friend, Kathy, for dinner last night and I had to bring home yummy FoodNetwork Recipe Challenge cupcakes from TGI Fridays. D loved them.
And also got to meet my friend, Paige, for yummy lunch at Threadgill's - complete with live music as SXSW is going on. Here's a recent photo of D, me and gigantico baby.
D's very into dresses right now. Especially PINK dresses.

movie & cake weekend

Once again the weekend has come and gone. Even with the loss of an hour we did manage to catch to two movies. Friday night after D went to sleep, Trey and I watched The Darwin Awards. Then Saturday evening we all went to the discount theater and watched Enchanted.

We also LOVE food shows here at the house so this evening we watched the Food Challenge of Dr. Suess cakes and just finished our regular favorite, Ace of Cakes.

D & I went shopping this afternoon and bought her Easter dress. We also bought her a couple of other not-as-fancy dresses.

Have a great week!

happenings

  • Tuesday night was my Susannah Circle meeting and we studied Passover.
  • Last night we went to the awards for D's Upward Cheerleading. We have been extremely impressed with Upwards and the church that hosted the program. It was a fabulous experience for Danielle and for us as parents, too.
  • Tonight we visited another school we are considering for next year. It is a VERY small private school but we were impressed.

VERY COLD here tonight. 38F feels like 27F. Bizarre Texas weather! Was 74F two days ago . . .

Kite Fest '08

Something you may not know about Trey is that he is kite CRAZY. I mean he really knews and enjoys kites a LOT. We first went to the Kite Fest at Zilker when we were engaged and several times since. Last Sunday we went to this year's Kite Fest and it was WINDY. We met up with Dave, Rebecca & Jas and had a lot of fun. Though, no sitting down to relax at this one - you had to be standing up in case you needed to dodge left or right to avoid a falling kite. In case you need further proof that Trey is crazy about kites - this morning he drove down in the pouring rain hoping to get a few kites that the wind and rain may have knocked out of the trees. Yes, he got a simple box kite and a set of fiberglass rods he needed to fix one of his other stunt kites. Here's some photos from Sunday:
