fish

Trey finally got the fish tank ready for fish. This weekend we released the 2 remaining guppies from our old, nasty fish tank into the new one. On Monday, Trey bought 12 Danios and 2 Plecos. The Plecos are the sucker fish that clean up a tank. It is amazing but you can see where they have been hanging out for the last few days because that part of the tank has the clean rocks. The fish have been very entertaining.

I still miss Hamilton. Every night before we go to bed for the night I do my count of all the animals and still look for him briefly.

Work has been very frustrating lately; I think I literally felt my blood pressure rise today.

Danielle has SPRING school pictures tomorrow; the school said they might want to wear Easter dress for the photos. Uhhh, yeah, right.

Trey went to our church's last Wednesday night of the month supper club and had a good time. Danielle and I went to McD's then to Kohl's. I got 1 pair of black pants, 2 sweaters and a kid's blouse for $54. Pretty good sale . . .

Last night Trey and I started to watch a really good movie--I, Robot. At least it is good so far and I don't usually like all that science fiction, futuristic stuff. I'll update on how well I like after we finish it.

Lucas has a really neat photo on his blog: http://hacefrio.blogspot.com/

re-introduction (guys might want to skip this one)

So due to some extreme sleepiness and hectic morning schedule I ended up having to take Danielle with me to that fun, once-a-year-woman appt yesterday morning. My ob-gyn is wonderful and I've been going to Dr. Erwin for almost 15 years now so he, of course, delivered Danielle. Dr. E has always knocked on the exam room door first then asked something along "who's in here?" or "Who's behind this door?" prior to entering. So yesterday he comes in and Danielle promptly announces "I'm Danielle." Dr. E then says, "yes, I know. I was one of the first to hold you." To which Danielle was completely unimpressed and just says "hi." Dr. E then goes on to say "except last time you just said 'wahhhhh.' " Danielle continued being unimpressed until Dr. E pulls out a glove and makes the "coolest" glove chicken ever. THANKFULLY, that entertained Danielle through my appt.

I have to get a mammogram . . . I can't believe I have to do that already . . .

playgroup reunion

Last night I went to dinner with 2 of the moms and kids from our playgroup. (We missed you, Kathy!) Our playgroup started as a library storytime when D was just 6 months old and evolved to a playgroup. It was fun catching up and seeing the girls interact so well; there were lots of giggles. Danielle, at one point, told me to move slightly so she could see the little toddler brother. She likes babies so much--a lot like her cousin Emory. We also got to meet the 10 year daughter (Marjorie) staying with a friend and her little "chick". All the kids were VERY well behaved and M was especially well behaved and helpful to the littler ones. It was also nice to catch up with my friends in person with conversations about kids, upcoming trips, missionary work and scuba diving and high school reunions with alumni embezzlers (I'm still amazed at that one). I forgot my camera, though, so no photos of the kid-ohs. :-( I hope we can get together again soon; I feel like 2 years has passed by so quickly . . . I also got to sneak in some cheesecake for dessert . . . yummmm . . . and stopped at the grocery store before heading home.

When I got home I found that Trey had just gotten home about 15 minutes earlier. I had been bugging him to go out with some of his guy-friends (even with my sporatic meetings with friends I do get out to meet them more than he does). He went to get Serrano's with a buddy after work. So it was a "single" (sort-of) night for us :-)

As she sees it . . .

Yesterday Danielle and I were playing one of her favorite things--mommy & babies. She wanted to be the mommy so I was the big sister helping with the 2 little sisters. We went on a picnic then the rest of the time was me saying "let's color" or "let's play Candyland" with Danielle responding "In a minute, I've got to wash these dishes" or "I have to finish this laundry first". sigh . . . it would've been even more depressing had I not just read this article the day before:
http://www.crosswalk.com/family/parenting/1463252.html
So we finished playing then it was bathtime and after she was tucked into our bed watching Zach & Cody, I finally went on my walk and washed all the dishes. (Trey was doing work from home until midnight.) Now, gotta go spend time with my Princess . . .

I am WOOOOOMMMMAAAAAANNNN

So this evening I am finishing up in the kitchen and Trey is already asleep. I turn on the garbage disposal to create a huge wave of chopped up stuff and nasty water. It spits all over my window things and backs up horribly in both sides of the sink--worse in the disposal side. So I wait a few minutes to see if it goes down. Then I decide to try again. Yuck--same thing. So I wonder what to do and am just about to wake up Trey when I think "I can figure this out." So I googled it (love the internet) and find out what to do (block one side then plunge the other). I did it. Sure enough it worked, without waking up Trey and Danielle saw me fix it all by myself. I am woman hear me roar . . .
I think it needs a little more work tomorrow. I think I need to remove the trap to see if clear and maybe run a snake through the pipe. I will defer to Trey on that in the morning. And, of course, completely scour the sink, window and stuff again. (plunger--yuck!)
I AM WOOOOOMMMMAAAAANNNNNN

Tagged by Chris . . .

So I was tagged by Chris http://new-conversazione.blogspot.com/
First, the rules:
1. Players start by listing three things he/she got for Christmas.
2. Then they list three things he/she definitely did not want to get for Christmas.
3. Then he/she tags five friends and lists their names.
4. The ones who get tagged write on their blogs about their Christmas wishes, and state the rules clearly.
5. Then tag five more victims.

Three things I got for Christmas:
A. A TROPHY--One of my life's goals has been to get a trophy; I've gotten several ribbons but never a trophy. My super-jock brother had around a million trophies and my co-ed softball team was either always in last place one level up or in 2nd place one level down so I never got one. Apparently, I've lamented to my SIL that the chances to win a trophy were getting slim. But my nieces proudly awarded me 2006 Outstanding Aunt and I won a trophy :-) I'm uploading a photo--she's so pretty.
B. my family in Arkansas got me some soothing bath gel and matching lotion--my coworkers comment on the great scent and I agree.
C. a gift certificate for yoga classes and the time to go to them from my hubby. (2 weeks into January--have I gotten out of bed in time to go before work?? No . . . )

Three things I definitely did not want to get for Christmas and didn't get:
A. knick-knacks.
B. too many sweets . . . I got just the right amount :-)
C. a traffic ticket on our many travels . . .

2 Victims (Chris said that I could forget that part about tagging 5 others. "Christmas is history already" but I want to tag my blog friends that got me started in this blogging business :-D)
A. Mandi http://wattslife.blogspot.com/
B. Sarah http://princessbride42.blogspot.com/

Austin Ice Storm 2007 . . .

Just a little bit of ice this morning . . . can you see it?

Happy MLK Day

Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Here is a good bio: http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/1964/king-bio.html

Also, I've always been fascinated by the Nobel Prizes so it's a good site if you want to look around at other things too.

Nancy's shower

We drove to Houston in the pouring rain Saturday afternoon so that I could go to a bridal shower Sunday afternoon. We spent the night with Trey's parents then my MIL and I went to the bridal shower. The bride, Nancy, is the fiance of Trey's cousin, Todd. They are a beautiful couple.

Nancy is in the middle with her mother, Mary, to the left (in deep purple) and her future MIL, Margaret, to the right (in white). Also pictured are the hostesses, Linda, Sue, Peggy and Pat.

It was a lovely shower and the home was recently remodeled and beautiful. Pat, the lady of the house, did all of the decorating herself. (People with that talent just amaze me.)

We drove home this evening in the misty rain but there was no ice . . . yet. It is 37 degrees outside currently (10:45pm). It was still warm (in the 50s) in Houston when we left but we stopped in Brenham and went BRRRRRR when we opened the car doors! We'll see what happens tomorrow . . .

sleepover

Danielle had two friends over for a sleepover tonight. They danced, had dinner, played, made cookies then settled in for the 12 Dancing Princesses movie before bed. Here's some photos:

aww . . . warmth

We've been without a comforter for a while now. I bought a (mass-produced type) quilt right before Christmas for the guest room but we've been using it in the Master. The quilt's not enough for the harsh, cold winters of Central Texas, though. So today at lunch I went to Kohl's and bought a comforter set (with dust ruffle, 2 shams and a small throwpillow) for $79 + 15% off. That was down from $119. Needless to say it is not a Crosscill or anything but it is a nice looking comforter and much warmer. I also got Danielle some fancy Ariel pjs for $11 +15% off. The 15% off is if you use your Kohl's card. Kohl's is having one heck of a sale right now--if you haven't spent all your Christmas money!

Danielle's own 1st scrapbook

Aunt Gretchen gave Danielle a mini scrapbook with a summer theme for Christmas; these are actual Danielle-done pages. We picked up some more photos this evening to finish out the book in the next few days. It has been so much fun . . .
